Data Collection Method

A. VAP

If an ICU patient has a Complication of VAP, the following entry must be made in the L_TmpV2 file:

  • Project: QAInf
  • Item: VAP Infection
  • Infx Dt: Date of infection (no time) is the date POSITIVE SPUTUM CULTURE was sent to micro lab.
    • Tina I have coded VAP for one of our patients. While editing profiles to send I had to put in a time. We are only supposed to have the date of the first positive culture correct? Anyway if we only need the date my system has a glitch.NMiller 21:31, 28 October 2009 (CDT)

B. Central Line Infection

If a patient has a Complication of Central Line Infection, the following entry must be made in the L_TmpV2 file:

  • Project: QAInf
  • Item: Central Line Infection
  • Infx Dt: Date of infection (no time) is the date POSITIVE BLOOD CULTURE was sent to micro lab.

Discussion

Template:Discussion

  • Tina, Kym at STB was getting an error message when sending: Send ICU infection audit must have data in the "time" variable. She had to put a "TIME" TMP for VAP in order to send. A time is not required for VAP or Central Line. Can you advise please.--TOstryzniuk 17:31, 28 October 2009 (CDT)
    • I also had this error today when trying to sendNMiller 21:46, 28 October 2009 (CDT)
      • There was some confusion with the check for time on QA Inf. Initially the error said one thing while the check was actually looking for something different. I have now changed the check to not care if a time is there or not. Will that work? If so, I can roll out. Ttenbergen 12:49, 29 October 2009 (CDT)
        • what happened with this?--TOstryzniuk 17:49, 18 March 2010 (CDT)

Line Count Form used by ICU's

  • Form is completed daily by CRN (charge nurse) or manager and FAXED to the Database Research office once per week (every Monday with previous weeks data).
  • Data Processor makes a phone call to specific contact people in each ICU every week if the form is not submitted by Wednesday each week.
  • Data Processor manually enters values from this form into an Access database on our office share drive X.

Consistency Checks

Tmp Checker will check for the following:

Dx but no tmp

If Complication Diagnosis is one of:

then

  • L_TmpV2 entry with project "ICU Infection Audit" with date needed

Tmp but no dx

If "QAInf" entry is present in L_Tmp then

  • program must be "CC"
  • the corresponding diagnosis must exist

Send mode

Data for all patients meeting requirements for this study, including patients you are not sending this batch, will be sent every time complete patients are sent.

  • Subject: question re: central line infection temp study
  • Hi Trish,
  • I have now taken over e5 and I have a question re: central line infection temp study. I have reviewed it on the wiki, and I still can't find an answer. (This is for a patient that Elaine did before I took over, and I'm completing the d/c.) Patient has an admit dx. of central line infection with pathogen unknown.
  • There is NOT a positive blood culture report. Blood cultures were drawn, but do not have any growth to date. Will access complain if the date is not filled in, i.e. you are supposed to put in the date of the positive blood culture report, and in this case there is none. Deb P.N.STB
